Ponto
de Tofo (Inhambane Provence, Mozambique) -
6 hours drive north of the capital Maputo
is Tofo bay. Still unspoilt by tourists (with
only one hotel, and lots of lovely beach casietas
(traditional reed huts)) this is the ideal
place to see some of the big stuff. There
are only 2 dive operators in the bay (so the
reefs are pristine and uncrowded) who launch
the RIBs in traditional surf entry style.
The dives are all shallow (max 30m) but teem
with life. Manta rays are guaranteed on most
dives and whale sharks can often be spotted
on the surface (so bring your snorkel). Obviously
the usual suspects are out there like potato
bass, lionfish, scorpionfish, nudibranchs,
spanish dancers etc. |
